Educational Enhancement Opportunity or EHO is a great opportunity offered by GRC. Many students worry about the amount of parent notes they have used in a semester, but many don’t know the alternative option: using an EHO day.
An Educational Enhancement Opportunity is a day where someone misses school, but is learning or doing something that is “intensive” in manner and furthers their education on a specific subject. This can come in handy with missing school for anything other than a doctor’s appointment or a sick day.
EHO allows students to learn through experiences. Many students miss out on real world opportunities and experiences because they feel like they can’t miss school. Our administration understands this and allows students to request up to 10 days of educational absence from school.
For example, if a student wanted to go to a museum on a family trip. Instead of using a parent note, they could take a few minutes to fill out the EHO form and have a school excuse. This would count because they are furthering their education.
Speaking from personal experience, EHO’s can be very beneficial when missing school for an extended period of time. I am an actor, and have recently started doing shows that rehearse during the school day. For three weeks, I missed school rehearsing for a musical. I would not have been able to do this without EHO. I was furthering my education in the arts and it was “intensive” in nature. Therefore, it counted as an Educational Enhancement Opportunity.
By allowing people to have these EHO’s, GRC is allowing students to not only learn through the classroom but also learn through experiences that may not have previously been available due to the confinement of school hours.
If a student needs to fill out an EHO form, there are quite a few ways to fill out the form. They are available at the front office with attendance clerk Mrs. Moore, or as a printable PDF on the Clark County Public Schools website.
Thank you GRC for giving the student body a great opportunity to learn and grow!
