Vinyls- Levi
Open a brand new envelope, pull out the brand new record, also known as a vinyl, and place it on the record player. Over the years I believe that record players have become more popular…way more popular than any CD’s. There is so much nostalgia that you get when you listen to music on a record player. Vinyls not only produce a beautiful sound but they can also be used as cool decoration. You have the option to either hang the vinyl itself or the casing with the album cover art on it on the wall. This can add for some fun vintage room decor, office, or wherever you may have you may like. I can see why a lot of people like the CD over vinyl. It is more portable than vinyl and you can put it in the car radio, but there are so many factors that make a record player superior. I think the idea of a CD is based on vinyl. It is the exact concept. You have a circular disc that is put on top of a box or in a box and spins. A CD would not have been created if vinyl wasn’t around. The phonograph, later known as the record player, was invented in 1877. The CD was invented in 1982. According to the internet, the CD was created as a “successor” to the vinyl. If it was a successor to the record player, why is the record player still so popular?

CDs are the ultimate form of musical physical media, no doubt. I hate when ads pop up during my jam session, and paying $12 a month for a subscription on Spotify is not worth it to me. The solution? The classic compact disc, or CD. Vinyls cost an arm and a leg. If I’m not willing to pay the $12 for Spotify Premium, I’m sure not going to spend upwards of $20 for a single album! Not to mention, they aren’t portable. If I want to listen to music in the car free from the torture of advertisements, CDs are my best friend. Can you play vinyl in your car? Um…no, you cannot. A thrifted CD costs around $5 for roughly 80 minutes worth of music. I don’t have to place a needle on the right spot, I can just press the skip button and get to the song I want. Besides, I refuse to pay my life away for an oversized plastic disc that warps at the slightest amount of heat. The upkeep of a record player is too much for me as well. You have to drop a ton of money for a good turntable that won’t destroy your overpriced vinyls. Also, don’t get me started on storage. CDs have beautiful racks that hold multiple without damaging them. You don’t have to worry too much about them getting damaged. They take up less space and they are more durable. Jewel cases protect the disc while vinyl has a simple cardboard sleeve. You can also see which album you are picking by looking quickly at the side of a CD case but you have to surf through your collection of vinyls to find the one you want. I think the answer is clear: CDs are the superior disc.
