Thanksgiving is a special time when friends and family get together to share a delicious meal full of all their favorite dishes. Sharing these dishes brings us together and reminds us to appreciate the people around us and the moments we have. Here’s my top five favorite Thanksgiving foods
The best Thanksgiving food out there has to be mashed potatoes. The smooth creamy texture pairs perfectly with all the other traditional dishes. You can personalize them by adding different seasonings and add-ins, like corn, cheese, or some turkey. I always help my grandparents make the mashed potatoes because I love me some butter.
Another excellent creamy Thanksgiving favorite is mac and cheese. Both children and adults can enjoy this dish at the family gathering. This is also super versatile; you can use any type of cheese and add bacon bits, breadcrumbs, or even spices; whatever fits your liking.
Many families disagree over the common argument of ham or turkey. Personally, I think turkey wins all the way. Turkey’s texture is much more enjoyable, tender, and juicy. Seeing the turkey fresh out the oven always gets me in the thankful spirit. Plus my family always makes turkey hash after Thanksgiving with everything left and the turkey makes the hash ten times better.
Green beans help to give contrast between the other variety of foods on the table. Whether you like them in a casserole or simply sauteed with garlic, they add both a taste and texture that is loved by many. Green beans also bring a healthy touch to all the super tasty foods.
You can’t have a good dinner without having a sweet desert. My favorite tradition is all the pies my grandpa makes the night before thanksgiving. He usually makes chocolate and pecan, but my personal favorite is one he doesn’t make at home… pumpkin pie! It’s delicious, warm, and full of that classic spice flavor that everyone loves.
Whether your favorite is the savory turkey or the sweet pumpkin pie, each dish has its special place on the table and our hearts. These foods not only fill our stomachs as something to be grateful for, they also create wonderful memories making Thanksgiving one holiday I definitely look forward to.
