47 years and 1,358 games later, they’ve hit 900.

Certainly making a name for themselves, the GRC Girls Basketball team reached an outstanding accomplishment of 900 program wins, on the 25th of February.

Within the last decade, it has been evident that the GRC Hoops program has dominated, and that dynasty we see playing today was built from the past programs who shaped the way for the current team.

From the very beginning when girls high school basketball was brought back to Kentucky in 1974, the girls of GRC were determined to pave the way for the program.

An outstanding season from the ‘74-’75 team, with 22 wins and only 3 losses, set the tone for almost the next decade as the GRC girls team had winning records for the next eight years.

Coach Robbie Graham, who brought the program to its 900th win, says he is proud of the past success of GRC Hoops teams and the current team’s, and that all contributed to this major milestone.

“It is an amazing accomplishment for our program,” says Graham. “I am extremely proud and very humbled to be a small piece of that puzzle.”

Achieving this feat advances the GRC Hoops program to 3rd in the state in number of total program wins, falling behind Sacred Heart with 957 wins and Marshall County with 1,143 wins.

With 29 District championships, 14 Region championships, seven Elite 8 appearances, three Final 4 appearances, and two State Championship runner-ups, it is evident that the GRC Hoops program has been one of the top teams in the state, even before reaching 900.

“GRC Hoops has been one of the top programs in the state for many years. We have had some very talented players and some top-notch coaches that have been on the sidelines that helped get this program here,” said Graham.

Graham says it is an amazing feeling to be a part of those wins, and a big portion of those wins do come from Coach Graham himself. He has now contributed 200 total wins, over his nine years here, to the program’s 900 wins.

Coach Graham reached 200 March 16th with the team’s win over Bourbon County in the first round of the District Tournament.

Graham says it feels great to reach that 200 milestone in his coaching career, and he doesn’t take all the credit for that milestone.

He contributes most of his success to the help he has had along the way: “We have had some extremely talented, high character young ladies, along with terrific coaches that have all worked really hard to be successful.”

The success and wins don’t stop here. Now with 900 program wins and 200 coaching wins, Coach Graham and his Lady Cards look to win another District Championship game tonight and each game after that, as they make their way deep into post season play and hopefully get back to the Sweet 16.
