Freshman Hagan Harrison returned a punt early Friday Night to give GRC the 7-0 lead.

Following a 31-7 defeat to the hands of Madison Central in last week’s district championship, the Cards looked to get back on track for the final regular season game.

GRC started with the ball in Bourbon County territory after an outstanding return by Azzy Israel.

A fumble, which can be chalked up to the poor conditions, gave the Colonels the ball shortly after.

However, the defense – which has been nothing shy of stingy all season – forced a quick punt.

Freshman Hagan Harrison would return that punt for over 60 yards, and into the end zone, putting GRC up 7-0 early.

From there, the Cardinals never looked back.

The GRC defense continued their outstanding play, never allowing Bourbon to get on the scoreboard.

Azzy Israel played an incredible first half as well, rushing for three touchdowns.

However, the star of the first half was Senior OT Ben Jackson, who late in the first half took the hand-off up the middle and rumbled into the end zone for the score. Jackson’s first touchdown of the season put the Cardinals up 34-0 at halftime.

The second half saw much of the same, as the defense continued to get after the Bourbon County ball carriers, allowing little space to work.

Halfway through the third quarter, Senior DE Jehdon Jenkins would get in on the action, scoring by way of a rushing touchdown, which put GRC up 40.

The score would remain 40-0 until the running clock expired.

With the huge win, GRC finishes the season 7-3, their best record since 2009.

Next week marks the start of the state playoffs, where the Cardinals will host the 4-6 Cooper Jaguars. With a win, the Cardinals will play the winner of Conner/Lafayette.
