Kentucky is the horse capital of the world and horse racing is probably the biggest staple in the state. Keeneland is one of the two biggest horse racing tracks in the state of Kentucky, located in Lexington, following Churchill Downs in Louisville.
As October wrapped up and Kentucky got cooler and chillier, Keeneland’s fall meet ended. Even though Keeneland does not open back up until April, I highly suggest that you visit if you haven’t been.
I went to Keeneland for the first time this year and I had a blast. The whole area around the track is so beautiful. From the road leading up to the parking, the entrance where you confirm your tickets, and then finally just the track as a whole.
The whole vibe once you walk through the doors was awesome, due to the fact of just how everyone there was dressed. If wearing sports coats with khakis or a suit was an everyday outfit, then I would definitely participate. All of the men are either wearing suits or dress shirts with khakis and the women are wearing colorful dresses.
Once you get your tickets checked by the security, you then walk up some steps. After you make it up the steps, you walk into the new paddock and see horses getting warmed up as they walk around a brick path. As you look around the paddock, you will see amazing scenes of the trees and shrubbery, as well as the architecture.
One of the best parts about Keeneland is the prices. The general admission ticket prices range from $7-$15.
But for many people, the ticket isn’t the only thing that they spend money on. Placing bets on the horse races is probably the biggest staple about Keeneland. Since I’m not old enough to place a bet, it is so funny seeing everybody’s reactions once the race is going. You can definitely tell who placed a bet and won just by seeing their faces.
While Keeneland isn’t something that the average Kentuckian gets a taste of everyday, if you have never been before you definitely need to go.
