In our day and age book to movie conversions don’t have the best reputation. But let’s be real, they all aren’t that bad. So here are my top five best book to movie adaptations that you should go watch (and read) if you haven’t already.
5. “Jumanji”– ”Jumanji” is a fun family classic. A real world fantasy with some comedy aspects mixed in. The movie does a wonderful job of bringing the thrill of the story of “Jumanji” to the big screen. With fun effects and not awful CGI for 1995, it’s overall just a good movie. Definitely more of a family night watch than just for personal viewing, but still worth watching, which is why I believe it deserves the number five spot.
4. “The Hunger Games” – “The Hunger Games” series is pretty much known by everyone and lets be honest it’s really good. The books are a mix of action and romance in a dystopian future that really captures readers attention. What impresses me the most about its movie adaptation though is that they took a book written in a first person point of view, and put it in an outside perspective. All this and they still managed to capture the world of the Hunger Games perfectly which is why it is at the number four spot.
3. “The Princess Bride” – “The Princess Bride” is an absolute classic. An amazing comedy romance novel that just hits. And the movie adaptation was absolutely perfect. It is one of the funniest movies of all time and created some absolutely iconic quotes. It’s absolutely amazing and you should watch it if you haven’t already, which is why I believe it deserves the number three spot.
2. “Harry Potter” – “Harry Potter” is a series that almost everyone has heard of and probably read at least one of the books in the series or seen one of the movies at some point in their lives. It’s a classic story about the battles of good versus evil, dark versus light, in a coming of age style format. The movies did a great job of capturing the magical world of “Harry Potter”. The visuals and effects are excellent. The actors are all amazing at playing their roles. And they managed to carry the series with the actors as they grew making the story feel like it matches the timeline of the books perfectly. It’s overall just a great adaptation which is why it’s in the number two spot.
1. “Forrest Gump” – “Forrest Gump” is another absolute classic. Of which its movie is absolutely spectacular. This story to put simply is a lot. It’s a bit of comedy, a bit of romance, and a bit of every other emotion you can think of. Its story is absolutely beautiful. It really manages to capture feelings that not many other stories out there cover, like love and rejection as well as the in-depth ups and downs of a person’s life. The movie did an excellent job in capturing that beautiful story which is why it’s the number one spot.
