Megan Moroney, your emotional cowgirl, just released her third album and this is my track for track opinion on why it’s my favorite yet. Moroney is going on tour soon, but she just ended her “9 Cities. 9 Days,” tour for her die-hard fans, which perfectly matches the album’s name, “Cloud 9”. She always knows how to bring together so many different people to listen to her music. No matter what you have going on you can always find a way to relate to her songs and even if you don’t relate they still hit harder than ever. I will always be a stan of Megan and I don’t know who wouldn’t be.
Cloud 9
The title track is about being so deeply in love that everyday annoyances fade into the background. I liked it because it’s cheerful tone and bright energy gives the album an uplifting feel.
Medicine
Medicine is about healing after heartbreak and finding the things that help ease the pain like medicine for your feelings. I thought the song was relatable in a way because everyone goes through times when they need comfort or even time to feel okay again.
6 Months Later
This track is about an ex trying to come back months after a breakup and realizing it’s too late because you know your worth. I liked Moroney’s confident, self assured tone, though while I loved it when it came out last summer, it doesn’t feel as fresh as the rest of the album now
Stupid
Stupid is about repeating the same relationship mistakes even when you know better and letting your heart win over your brain. I liked the honesty in the song because it shows she isn’t perfect and also has real life struggles and isn’t just a celebrity.
Beautiful Things
This song is soft and sweet, focusing on appreciating the little things that make life special. I thought it was a cute, and enjoyable song with a calm moment in the album.
Convincing
In Convincing, Moroney sings about trying to persuade herself that a relationship is right, even when she has doubts. It’s one of my favorites because of how catchy it is and that it can be very relatable for some people.
Liars & Tigers & Bears
This song is about feeling scared to open up or take risks because of the pain, but still trying anyway. It describes a lot of fear and hesitation in relationships and uses a lot of different imagery. It’s not my favorite of the album, but it’s just not special to me.
I Only Miss You (feat. Ed Sheeran)
This song is about looking back on someone you used to love and realizing the feelings are still there even though the relationship ended. The mix of Moroney and Ed Sheeran’s voices makes it extra emotional, and it’s one of my favorites because it feels so heartfelt and perfect for blasting with the windows down.
Wedding Dress
Wedding dress was a very reflective song about imagining your future that didn’t happen with someone you loved. It’s emotional but thoughtful, showing how it feels to let go of dreams and expectations. I really like this song. It’s one of my favorite tracks because the song paints a picture you can easily imagine.
Change of Heart
This track is about how quickly feelings can shift in a relationship. One moment you feel one way, and the next, everything changes. It’s about confusion and accepting that emotions are unpredictable. I really liked this song, it was easy to relate to and shows how feelings can change so quickly.
Bells & Whistles (feat. Kasey Musgraves)
This song talks about how love doesn’t need to be flashy to be real. It’s about focusing on what’s been equal in a relationship rather than trying to impress others. I love this track, the harmonies with Kasey Musgraves make it feel special, and it’s definitely one of my favorite songs.
Table for Two
Table for two about going to a place you used to go with someone and suddenly remembering all the memories you shared with them. A simple thing like a “table for two” becomes emotional because everything around her reminds you of that person. I liked this song because it shows how small moments can bring back strong feelings and memories.
Wish I Didn’t
The song is about giving your heart to someone who ends up hurting you. It’s catchy but also emotional, and it shows how it feels to wish you could rewind time. I liked this song because of how upbeat it was while still telling a story.
Who Hurt You?
Who Hurt You? is a direct and emotional song about trying to understand where someone is distant or hurting inside. Instead of anger it’s asking a question that comes from care and concern. This track really stood out to me and became one of my favorites because it felt deep and sincere.
Waiting on the Rain
The song is about staying in a relationship you know deep down won’t last, almost waiting for it to fall apart. I linked it because the rain metaphor and emotional honesty show a side of relationships people don’t always talk about.
Overall, I really enjoyed this album. Each and every one of the songs tells a different story about love, heartbreak, and emotions that you may go through too, which makes it easy for listeners to connect to her music. Megan Moroney did a great job creating songs that are both catchy and meaningful, and it’s definitely one of my favorite albums by her.
