Bear Rogers named girls golf coach

Mike “Bear” Rogers

Longtime Clark County sports fan and avid sports historian Mike “Bear” Rogers has been named GRC Girls Golf coach.

In his first high school head coaching position, Rogers’ goals reach beyond the game of golf.

“Golf will be emphasized but that will not define who we are or what our girls become,” Rogers said. “I hope to relate to them with a fresh approach and earn their trust. I can do that by encouraging them to work hard and still have fun.”

Rogers is well known as a devoted fan of Clark County sports, particularly GRC, and an invested resident who believes in getting involved.

“I love our school system and community,” he said. “I want to impact the lives of our young female student athletes. I think they don’t always get recognized for their participation. I love promoting our schools and our kids.”

Rogers has established “core values” for the golf team, and stressed he is looking for more players. His core values:

C-haracter

A-cademics

R-esponsibility

D-iscipline

S-portsmanship

“Our goals,” he said, “will be to develop strong young ladies who will represent our schools, families and community with integrity and class.”
