Both Mock Trial teams have advanced to state competition in March.

Both GRC Mock Trial teams will advance to state after placing 2nd and 3rd at regional competition this weekend in Owensboro.

In addition to the team advancing to state, the following students won individual awards: Best Attorney for Black Team – Claire Martin; Best Witness for Black Team – Baylee King; Best Attorney for Red Team – Mallory Jones; and Best Witness for Red Team – Genesis Smith.

To make it to state, teams had to place in the top four spots after four rounds of competition.

Coach Kayla Clevenger said it’s not common for a school to have both of its teams make it to state.

“This is the fourth year that we’ve had at least one team make it to state, and our second year in a row of having both teams make it,” she said. “The students have worked hard since the case was released in October, and they’ve got one final push for their state competition in March.”

The teams are coached by Camryn Arnold, Kayla Clevenger, and Logan Murphy.

Members of the teams are: Mallory Jones, Caroline Harper, Ella Mattingly, Ella Howton, Emma Overton, Jones Howard, Keenan Robinson, Landon Runyon, Josh Muse, Daniel Graves, Zach Ross, Silas Coogle, Claire Martin, Isabelle Smith, Michaela Hubert, Sydney Herringshaw, Baylee King, Genesis Smith, Katelyn Fulks, Chloe Galloway, and Kylie Hensley.
