The GRC Boys Track and Field team tied for 6th out of 12 schools in the KHSAA Class 3A Region 6 Track Meet Friday, held at GRC. The girls team finished 11th.

GRC’s Tyleik Maxwell, a junior, won Region championships for both high jump (6’2″) and long jump (21’5″). Sophomore Zaydin Turner finished a close second in long jump at 21′. Corbin Ison, a junior, was second in the 110m hurdles (16.37).

All three athletes advance to the State Meet in early June.

“The boys exceeded expectations,” said Coach Dodd Dixon. ” We are such a young team and are rebuilding after the pandemic. We are pleased at the results.”

Dixon stressed how honored GRC is to have had the chance to host the Region meet. “We received many positive comments on our facilities and our meet management,” Dixon said. “The kids showed great poise and maturity despite their age. As all of our coaching staff were running and hosting the meet, the kids stepped up and got their events done without a lot of guidance Friday night.”

The state meet will be held the first weekend in June. The KHSAA State Track & Field Meet will return to the University of Kentucky June 2-4. Class 1A will compete on June 2, followed by Class 2A on June 3, and Class 3A on June 4.
