Shattering GRC records for a second time, not only did both Mock Trial teams compete in the state tournament, but held a spot in the top 10 rank. The Black Team finished in 8th, followed closely by Red Team in 10th.

“We were the only school in the state to have both of our teams place in the top 10, which is an impressive accomplishment,” says Mock Trial Coach Kayla Clevenger. “We are so proud of our teams.”

With multiple teams in the line up, the competition was fierce.

“I was really happy that both teams made it into the top 10,” says Sydney Herringshaw, Black Team member. “I’m so proud of my team for pushing through and earning our spot.”

This pride spurred not only from the teams’ wins but in personal accomplishment as well.

Sydney Herringshaw and Ella Brock were recipients of the Outstanding Witness Awards, along with Mallory Jones taking an Outstanding Attorney award.

Coach Clevenger pointed out the excellent leadership on the team.

“Izzie Smith is a natural leader on the team, as she was always making the council’s table organized and keeping her team in check,” she said. “Mark Ballard also showed leadership skills through his encouraging pre-trial pep talks. All of our students are supportive of each other and work together to succeed.”

The team expresses the most pride in each other through their friendship and bonding.

“It means a lot to me,” says Red Team member Zach Ross, “that our team is not only talented and committed, but we also support each other and grow from one another.”

This win is bittersweet as the seniors say goodbye to the team they have shared many years with.

“We are extremely sad to say goodbye to our seniors, some of whom have been involved in Mock Trial for seven years,” says Coach Clevenger, “but are excited to continue our successful program with our returning members next year.”

No objections – Mock Trial participants have truly represented Cardinal pride this season.
