Cross Country teams excel at region, advance to state
Both the girls and boys Cross Country teams advanced to the KHSAA State Meet with a solid performance at the Region 6 Class 3A meet Saturday in Versailles.
On the girls side, Laura Ross, a sophomore, is supported by a group of talented 7th graders. “Laura has worked as team captain with the younger runners and has done an excellent job,” said Coach Dodd Dixon. “We have to be the youngest team at State this year.”
The girls who are now 7th graders won State last year as 6th graders in the 3K division and placed 5th this year at State in the 4k 8th grade and below Middle School State.
“We hope to do great things over the next few years,” Dixon said.
The boys team also advances to state, led by sophomore Liam Parido, the team captain, and senior Logan Dawson.
“Liam has done a good job as team captain this year,” Dixon said. “He helps lift morale on the team during hard practices and after difficult meets.”
As the lone senior, Logan was the highest placing boy at Saturday’s meet. “Logan had a great race on Saturday,” Dixon said. “We are looking forward to State this coming weekend.”
