Family bonds boosts cheerleaders to state

GRC! GO BIG RED!

As the announcers call us to the floor the cheerleaders huddle up to encourage each other to perform to the best of our ability.

We say our chant along with our prayer and get ready to take the floor. The support from our family and friends was fantastic.

As a group we gave it our all in hopes of winning the title of region champions. With that title, we would advance to the state competition.

We took the floor with smiles and performed our skills to the best of our abilities, with only three minutes to show the judges why our squad deserved the region title.

We left the mat feeling accomplished. We had spent hours and hours on getting the routine ready. It had finally paid off and we were getting the attention we so much deserved from our community.

No matter the results, we were already winners in our heart. We came together as a team and gave it our best. Now, all we hoped for is that the judges thought our routine was as well as we thought it was.

As the judges began announcing awards, we all sat quietly and banked on our team getting announced as the winner.

They called the runner-up….it wasn’t us, meaning we would either win or we were not going to state at all. The anticipation grew as the judges began to announce the winner.

“GEORGE ROGERS CLARK HIGH SCHOOL GAMEDAY DIVISION WINNER REGION 9 AND 10.”

We all got up screaming with excitement. The squad would advance to the state competition on Dec. 8 at the Kentucky Horse Park. This is an accomplishment the cheer team is proud of.

Through all the hardships we have faced it never shows on the mat. The team has become family and the bond we have formed is unbreakable.

Now our main focus is winning state and making our community proud.
