There are many things essential to making a school run smoothly, from all of our amazing programs and events, there are many tasks to be completed. Many of these fall into the hands of our new bookkeeper, Mrs. Britney Harper.
Reflecting on her previous jobs, Harper shared what played a significant role in her decision to come here.
“My daughter comes to school here now which makes it seem like I follow her around everywhere,” Mrs. Harper said. “When this position became open for a Finance Specialist at GRC, it seemed like the next logical step for me.”
Beyond her decisions to come to GRC, Mrs. Harper provided insight into her job responsibilities and the impact of her work within the school.
“I am the Finance Specialist–that would traditionally be known as ‘the bookkeeper,’” Mrs. Harper said. “Any money that gets turned in to the school for fees, yearbooks, or fundraisers, I will count that and make sure it is accurate and take it to the bank to deposit it.”
Harper’s transition wasn’t easy, but her prior work experience made it as smooth as possible.
“I started as an office assistant in the school district nine years ago, then I went to be an attendance clerk, which all led me to be the Finance Specialist,” Mrs. Harper said. “All of those had different areas and responsibilities that have prepared me for this whether it was working with students or clerical things like working on Google, organization, just things like that.”
Adjusting to new things can be very challenging, but Harper knows exactly how to do it with little to no stress.
“This school is very action packed all the time. With my office being in the main office, I see and hear a lot,” Mrs. Harper. “I try to keep my door shut as much as I can and keep my head down working hard.”
Having a new staff member entering the building can be intimidating, but Harper is inviting to anyone she encounters.
“I also want to be here and welcoming to all students and staff so I am here and available for anyone who needs me,” Mrs. Harper said.
