On the weekend of October 18, 2025, Raegan McCormick, a junior at GRC, traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to attend the Town Meeting on Tomorrow Conference. This conference is held by National Youth Salute to prepare high school juniors and seniors for future problem-solving endeavors.
McCormick has been participating in a college preparation program called Class 101. The courses have opened many doors for her future. Class 101 selects students to take to the Town Meeting on Tomorrow Conference.
The participants learned how to work together and come up with creative solutions to the issues they were assigned.
“The idea of ‘Town Meeting on Tomorrow’ is based on when people would hold town meetings to talk about problems in their community and how they could fix them in the coming days,” said McCormick. “We were doing that but on a larger scale; it was a giant “town meeting” on the “tomorrow” of our country.”
Throughout her time there, McCormick took part in various events and discussions alongside fellow students.
“We had different large group sessions where we discussed issues in our school, community, and nation,” said McCormick. “We talked about cyberbullying, driving under the influence, mental health awareness, the polarization of our governments political parties, and more and what realistic steps we as juniors and seniors in high school could do to make a change.”
College preparation is not something to be taken lightly, and Raegan does everything she can to make herself feel prepared for her next steps.
“We made a one-minute resume, which was basically a one-minute paragraph introducing yourself, your passions, and your goals that can be used in a formal setting,” said McCormick. “This is a great tool to be able to call upon, especially when introducing yourself at an interview of some kind.”
When she wasn’t busy discussing important topics and learning how to be a problem solver, McCormick had the opportunity to make special, lasting connections with her peers.
“The fellowship with people who cared about the same things as you, especially in terms of academics and sports, was so refreshing and cool,” said McCormick. “We were able to have fun with each other, like at the talent show or olympic games, but we were also able to talk about serious topics and open up to each other about our lives. I never would have thought that one day I would have inside jokes with people from random places like Iowa, but here I am.”
