Anglers finding success on Bass Nation Trail
Up and out the door before 4 am, the GRC bass fishing team is committed more than ever this year.
The team has returned from the first qualifying event in the Casting with the Cards Kentucky Bass Nation Trail. The team will participate in 17 tournaments, 4 of which will be qualifying events.
“The top 4-6 teams in Angler Of Year Standings will qualify for BASS Nationals,” explains Coach Billy Damron. “This is determined by the overall points. You must weigh in fish to get points.”
Although qualifying nationally may seem like a huge endeavor, the team is especially more determined with GRC’s largest team yet, consisting of 34 members.
“Having a larger team puts more lines on the water,” says Clay Gough. “That increases the chances of the team getting on fish.”
The team is excited to move forward this season with high hopes and greater chances.
“My hopes and expectations for the team are that it is a good year for the team,” says Bryce Alfrey, “and to see a lot of the new young anglers grow.”
Despite the goals set and high ambitions for this year, the members haven’t lost sight of what is truly important.
“The best part about fishing is spending time out on the water,” says Hudson Montgomery. “It’s not only about catching fish, but just being out there.”
It can get tedious when the fish aren’t biting, but persistence ultimately pays off.
“It is difficult to still have the motivation to go out time after time after beating your brains out just trying to catch fish,” says Montgomery, “but when you finally have that one good day, it makes up for it all.”
