Ah yes, Thanksgiving!

An amazing holiday full of football, parades, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and of course, turkey.

However, we tend to forget what this holiday is really all about — being thankful.

2020 has been one of the craziest years of our lives, which makes it incredibly easy to focus on the negatives. It is so difficult to find the positives in life, because we have gotten so used to them.

We have so much to be thankful for, whether it is something as small as clean water or as big as a community that cares for us. We only see how good we have it until something in our normal lives are taken from us.

You never realize how much you rely or love something until it is gone. We have gotten so used to the amazing things we have around us that we forget how thankful we should be for them.

In times of distress, it is important to remember the things we have.

We have principals who are doing their best to provide us with an education, teachers who are working hard to prepare us for the future, nurses and doctors who are there for us when we need them, and a community who cares for one another.

Take a look around you, wherever you are, and think about the things you have. It is lazy to constantly look at the negatives. Many of us know we should be thankful for things, but don’t want to work to find them.

As soon as we receive something we want, we move onto the next thing. If we continue this vicious cycle, we will go through our lives searching for more and miss out on the things that are right in front of us.

The next time you are bogged down on the negatives and think everything is going wrong, take a second to think about all the things you have in your life.

I assure you, they are there, and you don’t have to look far.
