“If my life is going to mean anything, I have to live it myself”
– Rick Riodan, The Lightning Thief
The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical originally opened in New York City in 2014.
More than a decade later, this musical is making its way to Leeds Center for the Arts premiering this Friday at 7:30pm.
“The Lightning Thief follows Percy Jackson as he discovers he is a demigod and embarks on a quest to prevent a war among the Greek gods,” said Lightning Thief choreographer and performer Ellie Miller. “It is about fighting all kinds of monsters — even the ones we have inside ourselves.”
Through demigods and fighting monsters, this show carries a much larger message.
“It’s the journey of someone moving through life and finding themselves,” says GRC sophomore Wyatt Jackson.
Wyatt Jackson is taking the stage as Percy Jackson but this show features 17 talented artists of various ages and several members of the cast and crew are fellow students here at GRC.
“I definitely can see myself in Percy because we’re the same age and, you know, like making new friends, doing new things and having these experiences, I can relate to some of it,” said Wyatt.
Leeds Center for the Arts is a staple in our community and has put on many amazing productions throughout the years.
The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is bringing something different and exciting to the Leeds stage.
“Percy Jackson is a relatively new musical with lots of high energy rock and roll songs,” says GRC sophomore Sylvie Coogle.
Ms. Miller adds, “The show itself is new, it’s energetic, and it’s got a cast of emerging talent and seasoned pros. Not to mention — tons of heart.”
This musical is sure to take you on a thrilling journey; make sure to go watch The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical at Leeds Center for the Arts. Shows are May 2-4, May 9-11, & May 16-18.
