Swimmers complete successful season

“Overall, this season has been a blast. I couldn’t ask for a better bunch of kids to be with on the pool deck.”

As the GRC swim season comes to an end, Coach Ashleigh Richardson is reflecting on a successful season.

Most swimmers on the GRC swim team concluded their season last month at the semi-state championship, held at Scott High School.

However Ethan Hatfield, a GRC freshman, advanced to the final round after excelling in the boys 100 backstroke and the boys 200 freestyle at semi-state.

“I’m not sure if a GRC swimmer has made it this far.” Said Coach Richardson. “He is definitely making his mark as a freshman.”

Hatfield went on to finish 17th overall in both of his events in the finals.

“I felt nervous.” Said Hatfield “But it helped knowing that I was one of the few freshmen that made it to the final round.”

As for the girls on the team, they had a good showing as well. They placed 4th overall and were just shy of 3rd place in order to advance to the final round.

Coach Richardson is excited and optimistic for the future of GRC Swim.

“We have a super young team, so we have a lot of promise going forward.”

If Abby could pick any movie character to be, she would be Robin so she can be best friends with Lego Batman. Abby thinks the world can learn a lot from Batman (He is very wise). Her second choice would be Alfred, but she doesn’t like to clean. If Abby were stranded on a deserted island, and she could only bring three items, she would bring a bathing suit, towel, and goggles. She might as well make it into a nice vacation. “If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change. Hooo.” -Michael Jackson/ Lego Batman/Abby Crase.
