Pumpkin vs Apple: The battle

Pumpkin+vs+Apple%3A+The+battle

Pumpkin all the way

Gracie Cecil

Nothing says fall like a cold bitter apple! Said no one ever! When you think of fall your mind automatically turns to pumpkins. Pumpkin patches, pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice lattes. Not a vile rotten apple. Pumpkin is clearly the superior fall flavor, no explanation needed, but in case you think otherwise here are some reasons why.

First, the best part of every fall is the pumpkin baked goods. Nothing is better than sitting back and indulging in a piece of warm pumpkin bread after a long day. Not only does it produce an indescribable taste, but you also immediately become overwhelmed with the fall spirit as soon as you take the first bite. A feeling that can not be reciprocated with a cold apple cider.

Not only are these pumpkin flavored items incredibly delicious, they are also iconic. No thanksgiving dinner is complete without a side of creamy delicious pumpkin pie.  And no fall  afternoon is the same without a pumpkin spice latte. Apple on the other hand I can definitely do without.

In fact, pumpkin is so iconic that pumpkin flavors conquer grocery stores pushing apples out of the way and out of your mind all the way from September to November, and rightfully so. Pumpkin fills the shelves with everything from cookies, to cereal, and even ice cream. Pumpkin has such a wide variety of foods and drinks that apples can’t even compete.

Apple is a poser fall flavor, apple stays the same all year and then when fall comes around it suddenly tries to become a fall flavor. Apple needs to let pumpkin have its time to shine and stay out of the way.

Don’t let apples trick you into thinking it’s a superior fall flavor just because of some sour apple cider and dry donuts. Do your taste buds a favor, ditch the apples and choose pumpkin; you won’t regret it!

It has to be Apple

Mallory Jones

It is finally time to embark on the best part of the year. The time when your taste buds are fully satisfied with the enchanting flavor of apple. With a sweet base and a tangy touch, apple flavor is absolutely superior to the bland and underwhelming pumpkin flavor.

The diversity of the apple stretches far beyond the scope of pumpkin, and this is something to truly be admired. There is something for everyone in the world of apple flavor and we have just begun to scratch the surface of its possibilities.

The second the temperature drops and the smell of fall fills the air, a craving for fresh apple cider takes over the majority of the population. And this craving is for good reason, because all year we await apple season to come back around to fulfill this craving.

The good news is, the apple cider craving can be satisfied by a multitude of different sweet delights. Apple cider donuts are a fall favorite among many. But it doesn’t end there. Apple cider slushies, hot apple cider, and spiced apple cider also inspire the love for apple flavor this fall season.

The people who believe pumpkin is superior are utterly incorrect. The muted flavor profile of the below average pumpkin is not one to be glorified. It is stuck in the same cycle every year of a spurt of pumpkin spice lattes and then after a few weeks, you get tired of it.

While it is true that pumpkins can steal the spotlight during October, as soon as Halloween is over, the idea of pumpkin leaves your mind. This is apple’s time to truly shine. As this glorious season is in full swing, I want to encourage you to satisfy your craving, and enjoy an apple flavored treat today.

“I've never felt more alone than when I’m trying to put sunscreen on my back.” -Jimmy Kimmel. This is the sad reality every day for Mallory Jones, because she's a ginger and has to apply SPF frequently. Besides that, Mallory is very involved in school activities like Beta Club, Mock Trial, and Student Y. She loves to sing, yodel on occasion, and compete in pageants! She stays busy but always makes sure to find time to enjoy some Don Senor chips and queso. Mallory is very excited to be part of the Smoke Signals staff and to have the opportunity to play a role in this amazing program. (P.S. Use this as your reminder to use SPF 30 daily.)
