Cheerleaders Prepare For Competition Season
GRC’s varsity cheerleaders stay busy cheering games, sometimes several times a week, but they aren’t always on the sidelines.
The girls are gearing up for a busy fall competition season. With 20 members, the squad competes in the medium division.
The squad opens the competition season on Oct. 8 in Montgomery County for the AmeriCheer Competition.
On Oct. 22, they travel to Nicholas County for the CDM Competition.
These competitions serve as preparation for the regional competition that takes place on Oct. 29 at Scott High in nothern Kentucky.
“This competition is extremely important to the team,” said senior Paityn Palmer. “Winning would allow us to go back to state for the first time since we won the state competition in 2013.”
This year’s team has five members from that state winning team – Erin Daniel, Laura Graves, Mina Rogers, Kennedy Williams and Palmer.
The squad’s storied legacy includes numerous state championships, including the 2013 title, which the girls won by an impressive four-point margin.
Laura Graves is a Senior and second-year Smoke Signals member. She likes just about any kind of food and hollers to some good ol' fashioned country music.
