Get your fake life out of my face
I once heard a friend say, “If I don’t get at least 60 likes on a photo I delete it.”
Ah, the sweet, sweet sound of insecurity.
As a society, we have become obsessed with the idea of becoming media influencers due to the rise of platforms such as Instagram and YouTube.
People no longer care to post about their normal lives anymore, now it’s all about the life you wished you lived.
It seems every time I get on social media I see some girl promoting a product she has never tried or flaunting around some exotic location.
Social media has allowed us to create an alter ego in which we can be anything we want and whoever we want.
Want people to think you’re deep? Post a philosophical quote.
Want people to think you’re happy? Post photos of you laughing.
It’s so easy to be somebody else online.
This creates a sense of being indestructible online and allows people to post things they never would have normally posted.
However, it has also made our confidence decline.
We have begun to base our self-worth on how many likes we can get on a photo rather than who we actually are in the real world.
People would rather be deemed pretty and mainstream rather than be deemed advocates or scholars.
All of a sudden, people no longer want to be advocates for issues that actually matter; they would rather advocate as to why you should purchase Sugar Bear Hair vitamins.
I’m tired of seeing how hair, skin, and nail vitamins changed your life, gain some depth and post about real world issues.
Life is too short to worry about your online presence, focus on your real-world presence instead.
If you truly want to live like those you see on social media, then log off and start living a real life and not a fake one.
