GRC Sports: Week of 10/9
Girls’ Soccer
The girls’ soccer team had a rough week going 1-2 with a win over Harrison County and tough losses to Lexington Catholic and Lexington Christian. The 14-3-1 Lady Cards will look to bounce back tonight in their first District Tournament game against Paris at Montgomery County. With a win the girls would advance to the District Tournament Championship Oct. 11.
Boys’ Soccer
The boys’ soccer team ended its season on a high point with a 10-0 victory over Berea and a 1-1 draw against Conner. The Cards finished the regular season with an 11-3-2 record. The boys will face Bourbon County at Montgomery County on Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the first round of Districts. With a win the boys will play for the District Championship Oct. 12.
Volleyball
Last week the Volleyball team went 5-3 with wins over Wolfe County, Montgomery County, Bracken County, and two wins over Fleming County. The girls look to prepare for Districts with two games this week against Bourbon County Oct. 10 and Bryan Station Oct. 12.
Football
The football team fell to 4-3 with a 38-14 loss to the Lafayette Generals. The team looks to bounce back against the Tates Creek Commodores Friday, Oct. 13, at home.
Cross Country
Last week the girls’ cross country team placed second in the Coaches Classic. The boys’ cross country team placed fifth in the same competition. The cross country teams will be back in action again Oct. 17 in Powell County.
Spencer McCord is a Senior and second-year Smoke Signals member. He likes to watch Sons of Anarchy and thinks Saturdays are for the boysenberry.
