Cardinals Fall to Lafayette in First District Game
Two huge wins over Grant County and Boone County gave the Cardinals a sense of confidence, and many felt an upset over Lafayette was in the cards.
However, the team never quite gained enough momentum to show their true potential.
The offense were never able to get things going. Multiple three and outs put a lot of pressure on the defense. Lafayette carried a 17-0 lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter showed signs of improvement. The defense began to pick things up, allowing only one score for the Generals. Tre’Von Jones added another interception to his stat sheet, and almost took it to the house.
Jones’ interception set the Cardinals up for their first touchdown of the evening.
Lafayette took a 24-7 lead into halftime.
The Generals continued to pour it on in the second half, scoring twice.
A late touchdown for GRC cut the Lafayette lead to 24. However, the offense stalled and wasn’t able to complete a comeback.
For the Cardinals, the first district game wasn’t a success. However, the Cardinals will look to bounce back next week at home against Tates Creek. GRC will hope to pull an upset over the formidable foe.
