GRC Baseball Names New Head Coach

Following a deep run into the postseason in 2017, featuring an appearance in the KHSAA State Tournament, GRC baseball was in search of a new head coach. The search is now over.

Today, Matt Puckett was officially given the head coach position for the Cards. Puckett was a part of the coaching staff in 2002 and 2003, and helped take the Cardinals to consecutive region championships. Now, he’ll look to continue that success in the 2018 season and years to follow.

Puckett, the former GRC softball coach, led the Lady Cardinals to multiple state appearances, the most recent in 2016.

“I’m not a guy who wants all the glory and praise,” Puckett said. “I just want to win.”

With plenty of experience in coaching, and a solid core of returning players, the Cardinals will certainly have the potential to succeed in the coming seasons.

Puckett believes in his new players and their talents, saying there is “no reason we can’t hang a banner saying ‘State Champs.'”

Even though he may be new to this team, Puckett is no stranger to the players and their strengths, as he has kept up with the team over the past few seasons.

Look for the Cardinals to succeed in the seasons to come, and continue to win. Is a fourth consecutive District Championship in the making?
