Netflix “Defends” Its Position As TV Powerhouse
For the past few years, the streaming platform Netflix has become a serious contender in the world of movies and television. Netflix used to just be the place to find your favorite TV shows and movies from other networks and studios. However, Netflix has been producing more and more original content and are typically hitting it out of the ballpark.
The best examples of Netflix’s success are the Marvel superhero shows. The lineup of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist have provided various tones and interesting stories while setting up a connected universe. Even though these shows stand well on their own, they’ve all been building towards their own team-up series, The Defenders.
The Defenders brings all of the Netflix Marvel superheroes together in order to defeat an underground organization known as The Hand, who has their own sinister plans for New York City.
After two years of set-up, the payoff is nothing less than fantastic. Charlie Cox is the standout of the show, with his portrayal of blind-lawyer Matt Murdock/Daredevil providing the backbone for the team. Krysten Ritter’s role as Jessica Jones, a private investigator with super-strength, is a great comic relief at times while also providing a grounded perspective in a show about superheroes and ninjas. Luke Cage, a man with indestructible skin and super-strength played by Mike Colter, brings his show’s Harlem-style and fits right in with the rest of the cast. Finn Jones as Iron Fist is the weakest of the links, however his performance in Defenders is significantly better received than his own solo outing. Sigourney Weaver is low-key, yet threatening as the villainous Alexandra.
All in all, if you’re looking for an action-packed thrill ride and a great time, you definitely need to check out The Defenders. The show is more enjoyable and you’ll catch more references if you watch the other shows first, but it’s definitely worth your time. The Marvel Netflix shows are some of the best entertainment in the game right now, and with more seasons of each shows coming soon, you won’t want to miss out!
