GRC Football Picks Up First Win of Season Over Harrison County
The Cardinals headed into Harrison County looking to bounce back after a tough opening week loss to Anderson. And bounce back they did.
After a relatively slow start, with multiple penalties harming both teams, Harrison County found themselves in the lead after a rushing touchdown by quarterback Ben VanHook. However, a pass from GRC quarterback Pearce Nisbet to J.T. Farris handed the cardinals their first lead at 7-6. After that, they never looked back.
The offense exploded from there on, appearing impossible to stop by the Harrison County defense. Running back Nitavius Thomas led the charge on the ground, with two rushing touchdowns, and Nisbet through the air, racking up four touchdowns for himself, in the first half alone.
The defense was nothing to be scoffed at either. The Cardinals had three interceptions and a forced fumble by halftime as well.
GRC carried a 44-6 lead into halftime.
The second half was no different story. Nitavius Thomas tore through the defense on his way to a 20 yard touchdown rush to give the cardinals the 50-6 lead. This lead would be maintained until the end of the game.
GRC played nothing shy of spectacular on both sides of the ball. The cards earned their first win under new coach Dr. Oliver Lucas. Lucas will turn his attention to preparing his team for next week’s matchup with Dunbar, in Lexington.
