The college football season is upon us and many teams are all looking to achieve the same goal: to win a national championship. Some teams are more likely to achieve that goal than others and here are my top 10 best teams in CFB.
10. South Carolina Gamecocks
This South Carolina team is coming off of a highly overachieving season. Quarterback Lanorris Sellers is an early Heisman favorite and due for a breakout season. If South Carolina can steal a few games in the SEC, they could be a team to watch in the College Football Playoff.
9. Oregon Ducks
Coming off a disappointing playoff performance last year, getting outed in the first round after being the number one seed, the Ducks look to make a deeper run this year. They have plenty of star power and an offensive mastermind in a coach has them looking like a sure top 10 team in college football.
8. LSU Tigers
With the return of star quarterback Grant Nussimeir, LSU has the potential to win the National Championship this year. Their offense will be top three in the country, but the make or break factor for them is their defense. If their defense doesn’t sell them like it has the past two years, the Tigers will be national champion favorites.
7. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Fresh off a National Championship appearance, the Fighting Irish are reloaded looking to make another run. They have a great offensive line and one of the best running back duos in the nation. The quarterback position will be a big mystery with an inexperienced player taking over the role.
6. Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama has always been a powerhouse, so missing the playoffs last year was a big disappointment. They had many seniors leave, including quarterback Jalen Milroe, so this year could go either way. The Tide will be led by sophomore receiver Ryan Williams who will be the biggest x-factor for the team by far with new pieces almost everywhere else.
5. Clemson Tigers
Clemson has been struggling as of late and look to make the playoffs again to remind people who Clemson really is. They have a Hall of Fame coach in Dabo Swinney who will do anything to bring Clemson back to glory. By far the biggest decider in how the season will go is how quarterback Cade Klubnik plays this year.
4. Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia has been at the top of the college football world for the last three years. They have a fully reloaded roster and one of, if not the best, coaches in the country in Kirby Smart. The Dawgs have plenty of talent and they just need to avoid injuries and you will see this team in the postseason.
3. Penn State Nittany Lions
Penn State has been one of the more underwhelming teams over the years. They always seem to lose when a big game comes around. Something seems different this year with former 5 star QB Drew Allar and the Lions look like they could flip the script and do something big this year.
2. Ohio State Buckeyes
Last year’s national champions are looking to repeat with a new and improved roster. They have the best receiver in football in Jeremiah Smith and a top defense in the country. Although they have a freshman starting at quarterback many believe they will repeat as champs.
1. Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns are putting all their faith in quarterback Arch Manning who is one of the Heisman favorites. Coach Steve Sarkisian has this roster looking like the best in college football and one of the best Texas rosters we’ve seen in years. They have all the pieces for a national championship team but you can never know with the craziness of college football.
