Winning takes a lot. You need nonstop practice, hard work, dedication, and natural ability.
GRC is home to some special athletes, one of which is junior Teigh Yeast.
Teigh is a prominent member of the Track & Field team. She specializes in the triple jump, leaping 40’3.75″ this season, ranking her first in the state of Kentucky.
She is No. 1 in Class 3A in both jumps and the 400 meters. Her 400 time is 57.04, and her personal best long jump is 18’7.5″.
“Being 1st in KY means a lot as it always feels good to be number 1,” said Teigh. “Not everyone gets to be top in something so it’s really special to me and pushes me to work hard so I can maintain that spot.”
Teigh has put in a lot of hard work to get to where she is.
“I just have to work hard every day in practice and stay focused,” said Teigh. “I have to stay ready every day to be at my best.”
Teigh is determined to improve her ability and it has shown this season.
“I have already jumped two prs (personal records) this season, so just continuing to get in the pit and working on the small things will help me to further improve,” said Teigh. “Every inch matters in jumps, so my next focus is going to be on my landing.”
GRC is led by a terrific coach, as well as Teigh’s dad, Coach Terry Yeast.
“Coach Yeast is so important to this team,” said Teigh. “He boosts everyone’s confidence and he wants the best from all of us so it’s a big part of our success.”
Coach Yeast had high praise for the athlete Teigh is.
“It’s special having the opportunity to work with an elite athlete, even more special when it’s your daughter,” said Coach Yeast. “She’s always rising to the occasion and ready to meet new standards.”
Coach Yeast mentioned the steps taken towards success.
“We started in December and focused on getting in shape,” said Coach Yeast. “Now we are working on specialized events and getting better everyday. We are making sure we peak in time for our Regional and State competitions.”
A big step GRC’s Track and Field has taken towards success is in their leadership.
“In great leadership, kids lead by example,” said Coach Yeast. “If I am a leader and I show you how to follow, it just makes your program so much better.
