It is almost time for the most important fashion display of the year for GRC… Prom!
Throughout the years, styles have changed drastically. In the 70s and 80s, big dresses, poufs, and shoulder pads were all the rage.
Into the 90s and early 2000s, people went for slightly less extravagant dresses with more details like lace, mesh, and sequins. The mid 2000s were filled with floral prints and two piece dresses.
And over the past few years, dresses have strayed away from that classic Prom feeling and looked more casual, almost like an Easter brunch.
But this year, that’s all going to change and the dresses are going to display that true prom vibe, but with new trends.
On April 19th, I expect a night filled with people dressed to the nines. There are two routes I predict girls will take.
Pastel colors that represent a fun spring season like light pink, purple, blue, and yellow are quite popular and that will be reflected in the dress choice of many.
Soft pastel colors continue to be a favorite, providing a delicate and feminine touch to prom attire.
On the other hand, some girls will go for that Old Hollywood style with black and red gowns.
This year, dresses with metallic fabrics and sequins are on trend, offering a radiant and glamorous appearance.
Designers like Sherri Hill have embraced this trend, presenting gowns that shimmer and sparkle.
When it comes to the silhouette of the dresses, corset tops have become extremely popular, and strapless dresses are on the rise.
I, personally, am a big fan of this style because it highlights the natural shape of your body, while the bottom balances out so it isn’t too mature.
Dresses that have boning around the rib cage and then a pouffier bottom will definitely be seen this year. This trend combines classic elegance with modern design, offering a timeless yet contemporary look.
When it comes to accessories, I think they will be very minimal. Gone are the days with chunky necklaces, huge earrings, bulky bracelets, and long gloves.
Simpler jewelry should accompany the gowns, just a small earring will suffice. Shoes won’t be too over the top, since girls will want the dress to shine.
Nude, silver, gold, and black heels will most likely be worn by all.
For makeup, I expect girls to have full glam. Eyelashes, a pink lip, and plenty of blush will all show up great in pictures. “Clean girl makeup” and “no-makeup makeup” are great looks for every day, but when it comes to Prom, a fresh face won’t be the way to go.
I think hair will be a mix of classic down and curled hair with minimal styling with some girls opting for the timeless updo, especially if they have an interesting neckline or collar on the dress.
Now you may be wondering how I came up with these predictions. The answer is simple – social media. By following the latest fashion trends and stylish influencers, I gained an understanding on what to expect for clothes in the coming months.
Prom is coming up in just under a few weeks, so let’s see if my predictions hold true. I am counting down the days until the best fashion display of the year!
