Now that Christmas is over, the colorful decorations that teachers and students worked hard to make are off the walls.
These paper trimmings are the most color the halls of GRC have seen in my three years as a student.
Now they’re gone and the halls are back to plain beige. The brick walls and lack of color almost make it look like a prison.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with the color beige. It’s a nice light and neutral color.
My problem is with how much beige engulfs the school. It’s literally everywhere.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have more color in our hallways?
Near the 300s, there is an awesome mural of Cardinal wings. Around the art classroom, you may come across student-made art work.
Throughout the building you’ll find flyer after flyer for events that have long since passed.
These are just about the only pops of color you’ll find.
This makes our school look so bland. Every hallway is the exact same.
I believe we should have more murals, more student artwork, more posters, and generally more color. Each hallway could have its own unique look which would help new students to navigate the building.
New decorations could be left up year-round to give the school a touch of personality.
Wouldn’t walking to class be less boring if there were something to look at on the way?
I’m particularly fond of murals. We have some incredibly talented art students at GRC who could leave their mark on the school by painting one.
We could also have more posters that don’t pertain to events, especially since they are often left up way longer than they are relevant. I think it would be nice to have some with uplifting messages, reminding students of GRC’s values.
It would be awesome if some classes or teachers took care of live indoor plants in the hallways near windows. Even fake plants would add some color.
We should show how proud we are of all the excellent work students do every day by displaying it. Since beige looks good with everything, we should give it some more colors to look good with.
I’m asking you to take the first steps towards a brighter, more colorful GRC.
Say goodbye to sad, boring beige as we let every color of the rainbow take the stage.
