For the first time in GRC history, the Dance Team placed 2nd overall out of 11 teams at the KHSAA Region competition and will compete at the State competition.
KHSAA State Dance will be held Sunday, Dec. 15, at GRC Arena.
The Dance Cards placed 2nd in region with a total score of 90.65 in the Hip Hop category.
“It was such an incredible feeling knowing our team was the first from GRC to place in region,” Coach Haley Snell said. “Knowing all of our hard work had paid off, that feeling was indescribable.”
The team not only made dance history by advancing to State; they also made history by going to regionals.
Senior Layla Snell said simply being there was making history.
“Regionals in dance are quite difficult because there are only four regions in Kentucky,” she said. “It’s hard to keep a positive mindset with everything the team has gone through and the hard practices, but the reward of competing, winning, and being with the team makes it all worth it.”
Many members of the team say their favorite part was the reactions to their success.
“When the announcer called our name, we were all in shock,” Junior Stevie McCollum said. “I was so proud of all my teammates and all the work they put in to get where we are now.”
Practices and preparation can be difficult, but the team is determined to give it their all. The team practices 2 or 3 times a week for about three hours.
“My goal is to keep finding ways to improve,” Freshman Sophia Blose said.
The team will compete in GRC’s Arena on December 15th at the KHSAA State Competition. Tickets can be purchased on GoFan and will not be sold at the door.
“We’re going to continue to work hard and have fun going to State,” Junior Madalynn Berryman said. “I’m proud of how far we’ve come as a team.”
