Stepping into intermediate school can be a really scary time for students. Making friends is suddenly a lot more difficult than it was in elementary.
It’s normal to find it a bit harder to make friends in Intermediate school. This is the year everyone from different elementary schools comes together, so everyone’s adjusting and trying to figure things out.
The Ladies Luncheon, organized by Baker FRC Director Casey Davis, is a weekly gathering for two to three Baker students to connect with mentors over lunch, creating self-esteem and building friendships.
The current mentors are six different GRC Girls Soccer girls, meeting at Baker every Thursday and Friday.
Senior Anna Barnes takes her role as a leader and cherishes each moment she can get with these girls.
“Being a senior, I remember being a student at Baker and wanting to form connections with kids I looked up to,” she says. “Getting the opportunity to be a role model and a friend for these girls is something special that participating in this allows me to do.”
Mrs. Davis hopes to find every single student a friend, whether they go to the same school or not.
“The girls enjoy spending time with their mentors each week,” she said. “At our Ladies Luncheon, Baker girls can become more confident and learn how to be great friends. They feel comfortable sharing their experiences and grow more confident during these lunches. These skills will help them succeed in school and beyond.”
Ladies Luncheon makes an impact on children inside the school and outside.
“My favorite part of going to Baker has been seeing how my connection with my group has formed and tightened as we get more comfortable and learn more about each other,” said Barnes.
The Ladies Luncheon is a perfect program for both Baker students, creating more social skills and forming close-knit friendships.
GRC students take in the importance of showing up and becoming a reliable person the kids can talk to and rely on.
