The 58th Annual Country Music Association Awards are TONIGHT at 8 p.m. on ABC.
In 1967, the CMAs became the first award show to focus on a single genre of music, and quickly caught a lot of popularity. This year’s show is full of exciting performances, nominees, and even a couple of GRC alumni gracing the stage.
Every year the members of the Country Music Association work long and hard to vote for the perfect winner in each category. There are around 6,000 industry professionals on the voting job, similar to other award shows like the Grammys or the Oscars.
The CMA opening number will be performed by Chris Stapleton and Post Malone, which is sure to bring the house down.
There are other performances by Noah Kahan, Kelsea Ballerini, Luke Combs, and other shining artists. Every year the CMAs bring in huge viewership and is an event the country looks forward to.
The list of nominees are broad and all extremely talented.
Entertainer of the Year is between Jelly Roll, Morgan Wallen, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson, and Luke Combs.
And Single of the Year is going home with either A Bar Song by Shaboozey, Dirt Cheap by Cody Johnson, I Had Some Help by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen, Watermelon Moonshine by Lainey Wilson, or White Horse by Chris Stapleton.
Those two awards usually bring the most anticipation out of the show, sometimes causing some controversy.
Another highly sought for award is the famous Music Video of the Year title. This year there’s some crossover from other nomination categories. The music videos nominated are Dirt Cheap, I Had Some Help, I’m Not Pretty by Megan Moroney, The Painter by Cody Johnson, and Wildflowers and Wild Horses by Lainey Wilson.
Another super exciting performance is a tribute honoring the beloved George Strait, and the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. This is sure to be emotional as they honor the “king of country.”
While this is all so exciting, there is something Winchester locals might have more interest in than watching A List celebrities gather awards.
Two drummers with Winchester connections will appear in this year’s CMAs. Caleb Crosby is performing with the amazing Kelsea Ballerini, and Kent Slucher is drumming for country star Luke Bryan. This is such a huge accomplishment for both guys, and they make Winchester very proud.
Make sure to tune in to the CMA’s this week and cheer for all of your favorite country artists. And while you’re at it, cheer for the hometown stars, Kent and Caleb.
It’s no secret that country music is the heart of the south. Don’t miss this exciting night full of stars, inspiring speeches, and beautiful performances.
