Spirits soaring, crowds cheering, student section chanting.
This is a feeling made exclusively by GRC game nights, and none of it would be possible without the Get Rowdy Crew Leaders.
Sports are a huge part of what makes our school great, and it is the job of the student section leaders to foster the excitement that comes with it. This year, the section leaders are doing just that.
Seniors Anna Barnes, Cady Johnson, Ben Cantrell, Chason Clark, and Camahni John have taken on the challenge of instilling school spirit throughout GRC.
“Section leaders help to make people comfortable dressing up and cheering for teams because all the leaders are very bold and loud with their support,”says Cady Johnson. “Kids are going to be more willing to get involved in the student section when they see us being enthusiastic during sports events.”
Throughout the years, the Get Rowdy Crew has become an important tradition to students, and by selecting leaders who encourage enthusiasm, the legacy can continue to grow.
“We need to keep games fun and exciting so people keep coming to sporting events,” says Ben Cantrell. “I really looked up to our previous leaders because they were good at keeping the games fun for the people there, so we need to help carry on that legacy.”
To encourage our athletes, the student section leaders have had to amp up the spirit of the students with things like dress- up themes, pep rallies, and chants.
“I am going to try to bring school spirit and try to get as many people as possible to come to games and other school events,” says Camahni John. “I think if I can lead by example, more people will be willing to participate.”
By working to support our athletic teams, the Get Rowdy Crew will rise to a new level of greatness.
“Seeing our teams be successful and win with a loud crowd to support them is my favorite part of going to games, says Chason Clark. “I’m excited to lead the Get Rowdy Crew.”
We all hope to be the best student section; however, GRC has seen a decline in school spirit in recent years. While it is up to the Get Rowdy Crew leaders to start the enthusiasm, it is ultimately the job of all the students to continue the excitement.
“We can improve spirit as a school by everyone actually doing the themes and not leaving the games and staying the whole time,” says Anna Barnes. “We are going to do our best to bring the rowdiness to the section, and TAKE THE LEAD in supporting GRC’s athletes.”
