At just 26 years old, rising singer, Chappell Roan, has single handedly brought back the 80s feel-good pop that we all know and adore.
Growing up in a small town in Missouri, Roan felt like she could never truly express herself. When she started playing piano at 11, Chappell started to find her passion and her musical talents began coming to light. This was the making of the next potential “Freddie Mercury.”
When she reached her teens, Chappell began singing at her school’s talent show. After mesmerizing the entirety of her school, she auditioned for America’s Got Talent. Unfortunately, she did not make it through the rounds.
Roan started posted videos of her covering popular songs to YouTube, getting the attention of different record deals.
She was getting booked for the small concerts where no one wanted to sing, and no one wanted to watch. Regardless of the baby steps, she was getting recognition. She was crawling into minds and being remembered.
The music industry is cutthroat. It’s a game of luck, depending on if you have the “look” or if you don’t. Despite harsh critics and empty concert seats, she knew she could (and would) make it big.
She stayed dedicated through her entire upbringing. Roan missed a lot of important events from her life, such as her highschool graduation and prom. All for the music industry’s benefit.
Her YouTube videos started to gain attention from producers, earning Roan a record deal at age 17 with Atlantic Records.
She was born as Kayleigh Rose, but absolutely hated her name. She created the stage name “Chappell Roan” in honor of her late grandfather, Dennis Chappell, whose favorite song was “The Strawberry Roan” by Curley Fletcher.
With her new stage name and abundance of confidence, Chappell Roan was over being “just the opener” and ready to influence America with her fierce and spunky persona.
In 2020, she released “Pink Pony Club” but with little success, she was dropped from her record label the same year. After a few years to grow as a person and artist, Chappell signed to a new label, Island Records.
Roan released The Rise and Fall of a Midwestern Princess in 2023. This album featured many of her iconic songs,“HOT TO GO!,” “Red Wine Supernova,” “Femininominon,” ect. While it didn’t happen overnight, this album is where her career really started to take off.
Between the popularity from her recent album, and opening for one of the most famous pop artists of this generation, Chappell was getting attention from all over the globe.
The first song I ever heard from Chappell was “HOT TO GO!” I remember turning up the music, and feeling like I was being reborn.
Her music is fun, easy to follow along with. The melody is upbeat and it’s almost impossible not to dance and sing along with her music. Her songs are the perfect picker upper songs for anyone that needs it.
She recently sang at the Chicago Lollapalooza Festival, gaining the largest crowd the festival has ever had, in all locations. The popular festival reaches places all around the world: USA, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Sweden, France and India.
At such a new status, it’s remarkable that Chappell made this world record. If anyone is getting compared to Freddie Mercury, it would be Chappell Roan.
When people like Chappell rise to fame, everyone across the world can take a deep breath and relax. She undeniably is who she is. She doesn’t put up with other people’s nonsense and is not afraid to stand out.
The world would be a better place if more people started to have the same mindset as Chappell Roan.
From the humble woman herself: “My name is Chappell Roan. I’m your favorite artists’ favorite artist. I’m your dream girls’ dream girl.”
