Bibbidi, boppity, boo! This phrase is commonly only heard in fairy tales, but it has become a reality at GRC.
Administrative Secretary Christi Jones has continued a school tradition started by students in 2010: Cinderella’s Closet.
Now students can visit the closet to find the school dance outfit of their dreams.
When she took over the closet in 2018, Jones faced a challenge. “The dresses were in a small closet and there weren’t many dresses to begin with,” she said.
Since then, Jones has been able to help the closet flourish and turn it into the amazing space it is today. The closet now has around 300 dresses and even suits and ties.
Any clothing can be donated by people in the community to be put in Cinderella’s Closet.
“People can drop off any clothing to the front office and we can organize the clothes from there,” said Jones.
This year marks a new era of the closet, as they are able to provide more than dresses.
“I’ve had multiple people donate suits,” said Jones. “I have shirts, pants, and ties for any boys that need an outfit for any school dance.”
Any student of GRC is able to go into the closet and shop for the dress or suit of their dreams, regardless of their situation.
“For anything that the students may need from the closet, they can come either see me in the admin office upstairs or they can go to the GRC Youth Service Center and see Ashton (YSC Director Ashton Patton),” said Jones. “Either of us can help the student go into Cinerella’s Closet and help them find something they like.”
Through this program, Jones has been able to help many students find a dress they love.
Jones has more goals for the closet than just to provide dresses and suits for students.
“We would like to have this closet to be for any clothing needs a student has,” said Jones. “It doesn’t necessarily have to be for dresses and suits.”
After prom shopping last year and things being shifted during summer, the closet is in need of reorganization and Jones is looking for all the help she can get.
“We have several clothes donated to us that are not on a rack yet,” said Jones. “I would love the help from anyone who is interested.”
The closet is accepting donates for any type of clothing, whether it be everyday clothes or outfits for school dances.
Any student is welcome to contact Christi Jones in the upstairs office or Ashton in the Youth Service Center to be able to shop in the closet or to help reorganize the closet in preparation for Homecoming.
