Legally Blonde, the world-renowned feature film all about staying true to yourself, became a musical in 2007 when it premiered at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Theatre. The show then transferred to Broadway, where it opened at the Palace Theatre.
Now, the show is here in Winchester at Leed’s Center for the Arts featuring live animals, amazing talent, and multiple students and a teacher from GRC, along with three graduates.
The show follows the romantic escapades of Elle Woods from Malibu to Harvard Law where she follows her boyfriend who broke her heart. Elle not only knocks it out of the park at Harvard Law, but she learns some important life lessons.
“The musical is quite literally the definition of iconic, and I really wanted to be a part of such a killer musical,” said senior Grace Owen.
This weekend is your last chance to see some incredible local talent shine on stage. Shows will take place on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
“This show is a great comedy that is both hilarious and heartwarming,” says teacher John Lawwill. “These interactions not only hopefully make me more human to students, but also help me see them the same—as more human than just as a student.”
Leed’s Center for the Arts started out as a single-screen movie theater in 1925, and blossomed into one of our local treasures that has shown many live performances. When at Leed’s Theater, you must partake in the snacks available at concessions, great popcorn, candy, and drinks, including Ale-8 of course.
Being a part of a Leed’s production makes you a part of a special family, bonded by a strong passion for the tradition and legacy that is Leed’s Theater.
“It truly is a Leed’s family; all the people who perform at Leeds have been performing there for years and I know it’s a wonderful place to work,” said senior Trent Conboy-Holden.
GRC students and staff who are a part of this production are Sylvie Coogle, McKinley Harper, Trent Conboy-Holden, Lauren McCraith, Josh Muse, Grace Owen, Tanner Rivers, and Mr. Lawwill. They already know each other and love working together.
“We already have a strong connection and it makes it easy to help each other,” says sophomore McKinley Harper.
The show features many different amazing performances, songs, dances, and more!
“This show is different because it supports a huge range of different kinds of talent,” says senior Josh Muse, “It showcases not only phenomenal singing and dancing, but also great costuming, set design, and gymnastics.”
