A set and a spike can change a life. Being involved in a sport is an honor and experience itself, but being a part of varsity volleyball is a thrill incomparable to any other hobby.

The Cardinals’ volleyball seniors wrap up their final season united with each other and they say they have the sport to thank for that.

“I know being on the team made a difference in my relationships with my friends,” said Micah Kindred. “We laugh and cry together; I’d never see them if it wasn’t for volleyball.”

The seniors all agree that this is no independent activity; this is where you have to dig deep.

“It’s not a selfish sport. There’s no way to win a game without people working together.” said Kindred.

They believe a very important component of volleyball is reliance on others.

“You can’t do anything by yourself,” claimed Elena Guerra. “Volleyball is such a team
oriented sport.”

Volleyball is unique because of its speed of play and precise timing.

“It’s really fast paced, something is always happening and it keeps my attention,” said Guerra. “Even the simplest hand placement can change the entire play.”

The adrenaline of each match can only be faced with a heightened sense of hard work.

“In this sport you learn your work ethic and it translates to everything in your life,” said Kindred. “You have to work hard for everything you get and you learn that through your team.”

Volleyball is not a thing of the past just yet, as one senior plans to continue her career.

‘Transylvania University has offered me scholarships, and I think I’m going to play there,” said Elizabeth Hardiman.

Not only have the seniors found friendship and passion in volleyball, but they have developed patience and selfless dedication.

“I do not want it to be the end by any means,” said Guerra.
