Heather Mooneyham has a goal as the new cheer coach at GRC: Winning a state title.

And why not go big in setting goals?

Heather has set and achieved lofty goals her entire gymnastics and cheer career, which began when she reached an elite level of gymnastics as a 10-year-old and became a cheerleader in middle school.

An Algebra I teacher at Biloxi High School in Mississippi for the past three years, Heather and her husband, Patrick, are moving to Kentucky because Patrick has been hired as an offensive quality control assistant for the Eastern Kentucky University football program.

“I hope to introduce passion and dedication to cheerleading,” she said. “I want to be a good role model for the team and build their character through the love of the sport.”

Coach Mooneyham was a varsity cheerleader throughout high school and was selected as a UCA All-American cheerleader. She went on to cheer at Ole Miss for three years and was on the Nationals team for two years.

She has been a head coach for the last two years, and led her competition team to High School Nationals for the first time in school history.

“I am very excited to be working with a talented group of cheerleaders and am looking forward to a great season,” she said.

Besides the family atmosphere cheer creates, Heather says her favorite aspect of the sport is the “competitive edge it provides.”

The new coach leaves no question as to what she is most excited about in her new role at GRC. “I most look forward to being the coach for the GRC team,” she says, “and winning the State title.”
