And the forecast for today is misty with a chance of freezing. The highs will be 51 degrees with the GRC Cardinals running in about 45-degree weather. It’s a great day to be a Cardinal.

The GRC Cross Country team ran in Danville Saturday for the KHSAA Region 6 AAA race. The final verdict was 5th place for the GRC boys and 2nd place for the GRC girls.

Both teams will advance to the state meet Saturday at the Horse Park.

The girls won a 2nd place region trophy for the third year in a row. This feat marks history for the GRC team.

Before the season began, both teams were ranked 1st in the Region based upon times from the 2017 Cross Country season. As the year progressed, the teams failed to maintain that ranking.

Going into Saturday’s region race, the boys were ranked 7th and the girls were ranked 5th. The top six teams in each race would advance to state; therefore, the primary goal was to qualify for the high school State race next weekend.

The girls’ ran at 9 a.m. at a brisk 45 degrees. The top five girls on the GRC team placed in the first 25. Coach Dodd Dixon said many coaches from other teams stated how impressed they were with the performance.

Next was the boys’ race. At 9:45 a.m. the boys toed the line and the gun marked the start of the race.

Once all races had been concluded, the teams met for an awards ceremony.

Both teams are preparing this week for the State Meet Nov. 3 at the Kentucky Horse Park.

It truly was a great day to be a Cardinal.
