Card Tennis dominates in Region’s first day

Entire team goes undefeated Friday

We don’t know for sure if it’s never happened but we know it hasn’t happened in a long, long time.

GRC Tennis went undefeated Friday in the first two rounds of the Region Tournament at Campbell County with every boys and girls player advancing to today’s quarterfinals at Campbell County.

“This is nearly unheard of,” said Coach Seth Heinss. For sure.

On the girls side…

Kamryn Richardson played two matches Friday, winning both (6-0, 6-0, and 6-1, 6-1) and advancing to the quarterfinals.

Lakyn Griffith, the singles 5 seed, had a bye and won the second round with ease with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Sydney Ely and Barbara Sheehan, the doubles 5 seed, had a bye and a phenomenal win in the second round 6-1, 6-0.

Madelyn Settles and Cassi Lowe are the 1 seed doubles team this year. They breezed past with a bye and second round win, 6-0, 6-0.

On the boys side…

Singles 5 seed Holden Bishop had a great match in the second round. Holden started strong and had a quick 6-1, 6-2 victory to advance.

Tennyson Prater, the singles 2 seed, entered with a bye and won 6-0, 6-1.

Hayden Cecil and Connor McCraith, doubles 5 seed, won 6-0, 6-0, and Andrew Carter and Gratz McCraith won their first match 6-0, 6-0, and their second in a nail biter, 6-3, 7-6.

Friday’s play began at 9 a.m. and didn’t end until past 11 p.m. Friday.

Saturday’s schedule: Girls singles at 10 a.m. Girls and Boys Doubles and Boys Singles at 11 a.m. Boys Doubles at noon.
